How Does Permethrin 5% Cream Work?

Permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide that belongs to the family of chemicals called cyclodienes. Pyrethroids are similar to the natural insecticide pyrethrum, which is derived from the chrysanthemum flower. Permethrin works by affecting the nerve cells of insects. Permethrin works by inhibiting the parasites from accessing important sodium channels on their cell membranes, thus stopping the growth and reproduction of the parasites, and eventually leading to the death of the parasite.

Directions

  • Shake the bottle of cream well before using it.
  • Before applying Permethrin 5% Cream, wash the affected area with soap and water.
  • Apply the cream from the head to the soles of the feet, and massage it into the skin.
  • Pay special attention to areas where lice or scabies are commonly found, such as the scalp, the neck, behind the ears, and between the fingers and toes.
  • Leave the cream on for a while, then rinse it off with water.
  • You may also use a nit comb to remove lice eggs from the hair. Be sure to follow the instructions that come with your nit comb.
  • Store Permethrin 5% Cream at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
